A dreamer that gives back to the province.

Michael Reu, a 24 years old hales from West New Britain province who was a former president of West New Britain Students Association.

Under his leadership, he took the initiative and rolled out five projects in West New Britain based on the theme, ‘To Educate, Serve and Inspire WNB’

“These initiatives are a way to give back to the community,” says Reu.

In 6th November to 17th November, these projects were initiated starting with the nearest school in town.

These projects provide arrange of information and pathways for students who wish to further studies in different institutions.

Reu and his team carried out five projects and they are, educational awareness, book drive donation, medical kit donation and health awareness, law and order awareness and cleanathon.

With educational awareness, Reu and his team educated the students in every secondary schools on what courses to take and the GPA requirement with the quarter of the five different schools in UPNG.

Book drive, each school visited were given books to enhance their learning.

Health awareness and medical kit were donated to few of the health centers as well as carrying out awareness on the disease that affects people every day.

In WNB, law and order has been a major problem and Reu with his team, were given the opportunity to speak to young people and the youths to avoid being involved in criminal activities, mostly in urban areas of the province.

Lastly, they conducted a cleanathon with the help of Kimbe Urban Local Level Government and the athletes of the province.

These projects were originally sponsored by UPNG WNBSA, with need that was seen by Reu to give back to his province.

‘I am inspired by the fact that I come from a rural village, growing up and seeing the need of people in the village suffered from basic services and lack of information that is why I initiated these projects,’ says Reu.

These projects were mainly targeted to the students, teachers, health workers, babies and adults.

These projects hit the three districts of WNB. Unfortunately they cannot reached the rural parts of WNB because of varies reasons unknown.

Michael extremely done a very excellent job in his province with help of UPNG WNBSA.

He left a message to this generation saying, set goals and focus in your education because education is the pathway to change your community.

He quote to them a line from Nelson Mandela saying, education is the powerful weapon which can be used to create and change the world.
