Help scheme funded into personal accounts.

 The Talasea District Development Authority has a program that was initiated by their honorable member every year to fund the students.

This assistance is given to the students to help them with their tuition fees.

Every beginning of the year, Honorable Freddy Kumai sends out notices to every students within his district to come and apply for it.

Many students applied for it and got funded every year.

With the universities, the member funded them with K2000.00 each student and with the colleges and technical schools, they usually gets K1500.00.

This year alone, the UPNG accounts have declined checks from the sponsors and governments assistance.

Therefore the student leaders work hand in hand to make it successful for students to get funded so they can pay up their outstanding fees.

The reasons for not allowing check payments into the school account is unknown.

The school account wants all the payment to be done through BSP payment that is why they stopped checks.

The Talasea DDA overlooked that notice in the newspaper and paid the check into the school account and made it impossible for the students to use it.

Fortunately the leaders of UPNG WNBSA helped the students and the accounts funded the students through their personal account.

Now the student are happy that they are funded and they can offset some of their outstanding loans with the school accounts.

Independence celebration.

 The association will be taking part at the UPNG Oval during the 49th Anniversary celebration of the Independence this Monday. The leaders of the association have decided to just let the students dance the Ronki way of dance in the Kove Kaliai district because it might not require too many traditional attires, it’s a contemporary type of dance. Limited timing and hosting the major fundraising dance has already exhausted their funds. The rehearsal are going on at the Forth Banner and the students who are interested in participating are all practicing there. It’s more like a contemporary type of dance, they will dance without kundu drums. This type of dance is easy and doesn’t require so many things like traditional bilas, kundu drums because here in the city there are not enough traditional attires. Israel, loves to show his culture.

 Israel Piapiak is a 20 year old Science Foundation Year student who hales from a small village in WNB province. He was the Mr. WNB at the New Guinea Islands region show held at the Drill Hall. Both Mr. and his partner did well and came the first runner up to the winners. He explained his culture and tradition in full details. “I love my culture and I want to share it with everyone about how I dress and carry out myself traditionally”, says Israel. He has learned and was taught of his culture when he was a boy. “Many young people refuse to sit with their elders to learn their culture that is why they are failed to carry out themselves traditionally”, says Israel.
