Welcome to UPNG WNBSA page, this page will tell you all the yearly news and stories that have occurred during these two semesters. All the news articles and the stories are the annual report and progresses of this association. We all the executives happy to present all this as the newsletter and working to achieve our goals and help Zipporah who has been working for her project.

This association is made of all students from across the three districts of the beautiful land of West New Britain province. This newsletter has present to you as an evidence of the annual programs and events that the association has carried out so far. I am pleased to have say that the stories and the feature articles are from the students who have done great in our association.

Now we have reached the end of the year with so many successful events and we wish to do more for our province and have stories to be presented as our proof. We have done so many fundraisings and hosts events to raise funds to give back to our province, that is our main aim.

WNB meet and greet in style.

                                               The West New Britain community here in Port Moresby has hosted its first meet and greet at adventure Park, 14 Mile, in which UPNG West New Britain Student association has come under. UPNG WNBSA has brought a huge number of students to this meet and greet event. The purpose is to unite the students, friends and families who are belong to the West New Britain society living in Port Moresby. Getting to know each other and help each other in times of need. Guests and speakers from all over Port Moresby who originated from West New Britain have come and took part in this event. Independence celebration.

 The association will be taking part at the UPNG Oval during the 49th Anniversary celebration of the Independence this Monday. The leaders of the association have decided to just let the students dance the Ronki way of dance in the Kove Kaliai district because it might not require too many traditional attires, it’s a contemporary type of dance. Limited timing and hosting the major fundraising dance has already exhausted their funds. The rehearsal are going on at the Forth Banner and the students who are interested in participating are all practicing there. It’s more like a contemporary type of dance, they will dance without kundu drums. This type of dance is easy and doesn’t require so many things like traditional bilas, kundu drums because here in the city there are not enough traditional attires. Israel, loves to show his culture.

 Israel Piapiak is a 20 year old Science Foundation Year student who hales from a small village in WNB province. He was the Mr. WNB at the New Guinea Islands region show held at the Drill Hall. Both Mr. and his partner did well and came the first runner up to the winners. He explained his culture and tradition in full details. “I love my culture and I want to share it with everyone about how I dress and carry out myself traditionally”, says Israel. He has learned and was taught of his culture when he was a boy. “Many young people refuse to sit with their elders to learn their culture that is why they are failed to carry out themselves traditionally”, says Israel.
